The Hatteras Weather Bureau Station was in commission from 1902 until 1946. This Weather Station was an interictal part of the cumulative development of the United States Meteorological Network. 

Having played such a significant historical role in the United States and Hatteras Island history, the Hatteras Weather Bureau Station obtained a listing in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Today the Hatteras Weather Bureau Station is a Welcome Center and a Museum of the preserved past that you can experience today.

The U.S. Weather Bureau Station Hatteras Welcome Center is operated by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau in conjunction with the National Park Service.
