Whalebone Junction Information Center is operated by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau in conjunction with the National Park Service.
South Nags Head shares its borders with Cape Hatteras National Seashore. US Hwy 12 at Whalebone Junction starts on the west side of the Outer Banks peninsula and is the entrance of the Cape Hatteras Seashore.
Just past the entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore, you will see the Whalebone Junction Information Center on your right. There is a large parking lot, a large manicured lawn, in addition to a restroom building, and the Whalebone Junction Information Center building.
Inside the Whalebone Junction Information Center, A.K.A. Whalebone Junction Welcome Center, you will be greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff that can answer questions and provide information on National Parks Campgrounds, ferry schedules, brochures, pamphlets, maps & more, free for your reference and to keep as mementos of your Outer Banks Adventure.
When collecting your brochures on Cape Hatteras Seashore, don't forget to collect your information on other National Parks and properties on the Outer Banks.
Whalebone Junction Information Center is a great spot to stretch your legs and gather information. If you walk your dog at Whalebone Junction Information Center, please remember that all dogs must be on a leash not to exceed six feet in length at National Park properties. Dogs are not allowed inside buildings & you must clean up after your pets. Also, keep an eye out for sand spurs throughout the Outer Banks.
