 The Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse is the primary image in the Town of Manteo's Logo. The slogan used is "Preserve Prosper." Indeed, the replica of the 1877 Lighthouse shines bright as one of the main attractions on the Town of Manteo's downtown waterfront located in Shallowbag Bay.

The Town of Manteo is pet-friendly. You will enjoy exploring the area with your leashed pet. Leashes are not to exceed 6 feet in the Town of Manteo. Pets are not allowed inside the Lighthouse. Please kindly clean up after your pet.

Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse guides modern sailors & boaters safely into Shallowbag Bay & the Manteo Waterfront Marina on Historic Roanoke Island.

The current Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse was completed and opened on September 25th, 2004. The current Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse is the namesake and replica of the 1877 Lighthouse that once sat atop a screw-pile foundation, Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse.

The current Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse does not have a screw-pile foundation and is easily accessible via the Manteo Waterfront Docks. But there is an exhibit that was validated & believed to be one of the original screw-pile foundation legs of the 1877 Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse on display near the Lighthouse.

In contrast with the tall lighthouses on the Atlantic Shoreline of the Outer Banks, this river lighthouse's sturdy structure stands on a dock 40 yards into Shallowbag Bay.

Visiting the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse could be a perfect photo location to add to your Outer Banks vacation photographs, the only river lighthouse on the OBX!
