The Southern Live Oak is a prevalent native evergreen tree seen throughout the Outer Banks. These oak trees have lived for centuries.

On April 24th, 2020, The Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners declared the Live Oak the official tree of The Town of Kill Devil Hills, NC. https://www.kdhnc.com/CivicSend/ViewMessage/Message/142185  also see Town of Kill Devil Hills, YouTube video: "The Live Oak: Kill Devil Hills Town Tree" But, this photograph was not taken in Kill Devil Hills, NC.

This photograph was not taken on Roanoke Island either. But interestingly, the non-profit group Outer Banks Conservationist purchased a property on Historic Roanoke Island to preserve a Southern Live Oak that is believed to be well over 500 years old.
