National Aviation Day was created on Orville Wright's 68th birthday, August 19th, 1939, by a presidential proclamation by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The Wright Brothers National Memorial is Pet Friendly. Leashed pets are welcome on the grounds of the Wright Brothers National Memorial. However, leashes must not exceed six (6) feet in length, and pets will not have access to museum buildings.
