Saying "Rabbit, Rabbit" on the first day of each month is an old British & American superstition that believes that if you say "rabbit, rabbit" on the first day of each month, you will have good luck all month long.

It is understandable that the natives & locals of the Outer Banks maybe be overheard saying, "Rabbit, Rabbit." After all, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, historic Roanoke Island is home to the first attempted English Colony in the New World, the renowned "Lost Colony." 

British influence on the Outer Banks is prevalent in beliefs and the landscape of the famed pet-friendly Elizabethan Gardens on Roanoke Island, where you may see a rabbit.

Luckily on the Outer Banks, sometimes the rabbits themselves will remind you to say "Rabbit, Rabbit." The OBX is home to an abundance of rabbits. Some visitors might claim that the OBX little brown rabbits are the official welcome committee.

The little brown rabbits seen throughout the Outer Banks are known as "Eastern Cottontail Rabbits," indigenous to North Carolina. If you look closely at the short video above, you will see a flash of the rabbit's white cottontail. This little rabbit was hopping around on the grounds of pet-friendly Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station in Rodanthe on Hatteras Island, NC.
