The Town of Kitty Hawk takes great pride in providing public beach access throughout the town's oceanfront. There are 266 public beach access parking spaces in Kitty Hawk, including 8 handicapped parking spaces.

The leash law in Kitty Hawk requires leash not to exceed six feet in length. Between 10 AM and 6 PM from Friday before Memorial Day until the day after Labor Day. The leash may be extended up to 12 feet at all other times. Well-trained dogs may be Unleashed under close supervision of the owner, not to exceed 30 feet in distance between owner and dog, but the leash must be with the owner at all times.
Driving on the beach in the town of Kitty Hawk is Prohibited at all times. The beginning stages of Beach Re-Nerishment plans are in the works for 2022, as the Town of Kitty Hawk works in conjunction with neighboring Dare County beach towns.
The Town of Kitty Hawk also has a public soundside beach access, on the west side of the Outer Banks peninsula that includes a handicap access point, at Windgrass Circle, Kitty Hawk, NC. This location is open from sunrise to a half hour after sunset. Unfortunately, there are no lifeguards on the soundside of Kitty Hawk, see:
