Because the town was developed by Dare County approving large beach home subdivisions, there is no public beach access. Therefore the only way to access the Atlantic oceanfront in the town of Duck is by obtaining a weekly beach home rental. 

Pets that vacation in the town of Duck have the most freedoms on the Atlantic beaches within the town oceanfront than any other portion of the Outer Banks.

Regarding driving on the beaches of the town of Duck, the following was posted by town officials:
"Vehicles are NOT permitted on our beach between May 1 and September 30. Vehicles are permitted during the other months of the year using designated PRIVATE vehicular access points. There are no PUBLIC access points for vehicles within the Town. Driving on the dunes is prohibited at all times!"
