The mission of the Outer Banks Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is "to provide protection and care for the animals and promote a humane community in the Outer Banks for residents and visitors."
To pursue this mission the Outer Banks SPCA operates the Dare County Animal Shelter that:
provides shelter and compassionate care to homeless animals,
reunites lost pets with their owners,
assists in the adoption of domestic animals in good health and temperament
into suitable homes,
relocates healthy, native wildlife to their natural habitat,
provides humane euthanasia when necessary
enforces the laws pertaining to the regulation and humane keeping of animals
The Outer Banks SPCA conducts community awareness and public education programs about animal welfare issues and responsible pet ownership and stewardship.
