National Public Lands Day on the Outer Banks

The fourth Saturday of September is National Public Lands Day. This year National Public Lands day is September 25th, 2021.

First celebrated in 1994, National Public Lands Day continues to draw mass crowds interested in the National Public Lands of America. 

On the Outer Banks, events are scheduled at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and The Wright Brothers National Memorial.

Listed are each of the Outer Banks National Public Lands with a contact phone number, a short description of each location, and leash laws for each site.

Fort Raleigh National Historic Site

Location of the first English Settlement, Museum, walkways, earthwork, and more. Pets are welcome on the grounds but not inside buildings. Leashes not to exceed six feet in length at this location. 

Cape Hatteras National Seashore

"Your pets are welcome at Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Do keep them leashed and under control at all times. Pets are not allowed on swim beaches or in the buildings. And, for other visitor's sake, clean up after your pet." Leashes are not to exceed six feet at this location.

The Wright Brothers National Memorial

Home of the first flight, the birth of Aviation. Leashed pets are welcome on the grounds, but not inside buildings. Leashes can not exceed six feet in length.

There is no admission fee at The Wright Brothers National Memorial on National Public Lands Day.

Outer Banks Families that have feline family members will be celebrating Happy Cat Month. 

There are other families, that are just considering welcoming, a new feline family member.

It is always a good idea to research and learn as much as you can, about any pet that you are thinking of adding to your family. Pets are more than companion animals, they become members of your family. Pets just like people have individual spirits and temperaments. 

Since September is Happy Cat Month, research this month has started with Cat and Kitten Care. 

Thanks to advances in technology, researching now is right at your fingertips. The internet is the number one starting point now on any subject. We used the number one search engine Google. As I have been told, "if you have a question, just Google it."

Some people when adopting a feline will want a kitten. Kittens and Cats have different needs. There are thousands of books just on Kitten Care. Amazon returned 30 thousand results for, "Kitten Care Book." Google had 7,910,000 results for, "Kitten Care Book." 

Then Google Books having over 10 Million Public Domain Works & Books currently archived, came to mind. So, I searched in Google Books for Kitten Care and Cat Care as well.

By learning about your new pet beforehand, you will be prepared. Once you start to research, you will learn of the many available choices, for the many needs of your new feline friend.

There is a lot to consider when welcoming a new pet into your family. The Love of your new pet family member and new memories that await will fill your heart will love for years to come.

Autumn is Awesome on the Outer Banks! 1st Day of Fall!

Today is the first day of Fall. The dog days of summer are behind us. The extreme heat has left and the cooler days of fall have transcended. 

Even though the weather is cooler, the heat inside a car continues to rise quickly. Please do not leave your beloved Pampered Pet inside an unattended car.

Fall is the perfect time to explore all of the pet-friendly places that the Outer Banks has to offer. There are historic sites, State and National Parks, oceanfront adventures, nature trails and so much more.  Please see the Outer Banks Pet-Friendly Places page.

Also, take a look at the Outer Banks Leash Laws and Beach Access page.  Each township is listed with its individual leash law. The towns also have a letter to correspond with the Map at the end of the page.

Now that Fall is here and Labor Day is behind us, many of the leash laws have changed providing more freedoms and access.

World Rabies Day, September 28th

 

World Rabies Day was established in 2007. Worldwide efforts between governments, health organizations, animal groups, and others are advocating for rabies education & eradication.

2021 marks the fourteenth year of World Rabies Day. The theme this year for September 28th, 2021 is, Rabies: Facts Not Fear.

The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) has compiled a wealth of information on Rabies education, prevention, case studies, and more. 

The World Health Organization (WHO) also has a very vast amount of information, that includes a New Oral Rabies Vaccination.

As the world comes together for a common cause, united in the goal of eradicating Rabies by 2030, Celebrate the accomplishments and look to the future with Thankful Hearts.
