Pets are welcome on the Kitty Hawk Beaches year round and also at special events such as weddings.
The following guidelines must be followed to ensure perfect day for both you and your pet.
From the Friday before Memorial Day until the day after Labor Day between the hours of 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM dogs must be on a leash not exceeding 6 feet.
At all other times, dogs must be restrained on a leash retractable to 12 feet. Dogs may be taken off the leash only if they will not disturb other people on the beach. Unleashed dogs must be controlled by the handler, who must remain within 30 feet of the dog at all times. Leash must be with owner/handler at all times. Owner handler must remove feces and possess a bag/container for waste removal at all times. All dogs must display a current rabies tag and local dogs must also display a Dare Co. tags well.
All of the town halls have Safe Pet Vacation Kit's available courtesy of the O.B. SPCA and the Dare County Animal Shelter. They contain information you need to know if you get separated from your pet while on vacation. They also contain a temporary visitor tag. Some events and gatherings require a permit for details please contact the town hall.
