Animal Lovers Assistance League, Inc. Celebration - Donations

National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week was November 2nd - 8th. Animal Shelters across the Nation were celebrating and being acknowledged for the crucial role they play in our Nations communities.

On Thursday November 6th, the Animal Lovers Assistance League, Inc., operators of the Currituck County Animal Shelter had a special celebration luncheon, as a special Thank You to the dedicated workers of the Currituck County Animal Shelter. The Pampered Pets Guide was invited to attend and record these special moments.

Ginger Sikes, President of the Animal Lovers Assistance League, Inc. came with table cloths, candles, food, candy and drinks. Once everything was set-up Ginger gave a special speech, acknowledging the staff for their dedicated work & Thanking them. A special prayer of thanks was said by Sandy Tally before the luncheon began.

After sharing a meal and good company, Ginger & the Staff expressed their thankfulness in all the community had given to them, in support of not only volunteer time, food, blankets & other donations to the shelter.

These are hard economic times and all Shelters in the Area are being over whelmed with pets being given up by family unable to care for them. It is heart breaking seeing 10 year old pets being turned over from families in tears.

Ginger Sikes shared her memories of 2005 when the Animal Lovers Assistance League, Inc. began operation of the Currituck County Animal Shelter and the hardships encountered. She also shared what a wonderful feeling it was to receive a helping hand & donations from the Elizabeth City Animal Shelter during that time of need.

Ginger had been informed of the Hyde County Animal Shelters hardships having being established in August of 2007 as the very first Animal Control and Shelter for the county. Hyde County has no veterinary services and is a very rural county. You can read more about the Hyde County Animal Shelter on the Pampered Pets Guide blog http://pamperedpetsguide.blogspot.com/2008/11/hyde-county-animal-control.html

Ginger's heart went out to Hyde County and with that in mind she went before her board at the Animal Lovers Assistance League to request approval to lend a helping hand & donations to the Hyde County Animal Shelter, just as the Animal Lovers Assistance league had received back in 2005 from the Elizabeth City Animal Shelter. Ginger's request was approved.

After the luncheon concluded, Ginger and the staff of the Currituck County Animal Shelter began gathering spare blankets & towels. Two bags of blankets and towels were donated to the Hyde County Animal Shelter and turned over for transport to the Pampered Pets Guide.

A special meeting was then held in the food area of the shelter to decide what could be spared. The Currituck County Animal Shelter does count heavily on its pet food donations at area stores; churches etc. but Ginger and the staff also realized that Hyde County doesn't have the resources or population that Currituck County so thankfully does have. Food was also gathered and loaded for transportation to the Hyde County Shelter.

The Hyde County Animal Shelter was extremely grateful for such a helping hand and generosity by the Animal Lovers Assistance League, Inc. & the Currituck County Animal Shelter. Ginger also took the time to personally speak with Officer JM Eakes, Animal Control for Hyde County, at length re: valued advice and sharing her knowledge in the animal welfare field.
