Outer Banks SPCA 2009 Calendar Cover "Floyd"

Floyd was professionally photographed by Walter V. Gresham lll Photography to grace the cover of the 2009 Outer Banks Pet Calendar.

Floyd is a 6 year old neutered male Bassett Hound that happily lives on his couch and king size bed in Manteo. He was adopted from the Dare County Animal Shelter-Outer Banks SPCA. He is on his 3rd and final home. Floyd has recently been diagnosed with Lymph sarcoma (cancer of the lymphatic system). He is a special needs dog that had never been house trained, has separation anxiety and loves the garbage can and loaves of bread (he snarfs them off of the kitchen counter and kitchen table if left too close to the edge).

Floyd was chosen by the Outer Banks SPCA as a representation of their dedication to place pets in loving homes no matter how long it takes.
Since January 2008 the Dare County Animal Shelter, Outer Banks SPCA has found loving homes for
151 dogs
90 cats
1 Iguana
and 1 rabbit

Dare County "Nags Head" Pet Celebrity

"Boone" is our only Nags Head Pet Celebrity. He is the resident greeter of the Fin N Feather Waterside Inn in Nags Head, NC. Boone loves working in the office each day and patiently waits & relaxes on his custom cherry wood doggie bed (his grandpa made just for him) behind the office desk, until new friends arrive to greet.

You might say that the Fin N Feather Waterside Inn is Boone's Place. Boone thinks it's an Outer Banks doggie resort as all of the rooms at Boone's Place are Pet Friendly. Boone gets to meet new friends every day, people & pets & just loves his job.
(blog photograph by Carol at Seaside Photography http://www.seasidephotography.com )

Boone is also a new member of the Pampered Pets Club, you can see a photo of Boone on his sound front dock by going to http://www.pamperedpetsguide.com/ & click on the Pampered Pets Club logo.

Meet 2008's Outer Banks SPCA President Dave Penosky

Dave Penosky, his wife Lisa, son Josh & Pets have been residents of the Outer Banks of NC for ten years. Dave and his family have been animal lovers & advocates for many years, to the point of adopting special needs pets, to save lives. It comes as no surprise that Dave would be active in the Outer Banks SPCA.

Dave takes his new position as the Outer Banks SPCA President serious and plans to make a difference. The homeless animals of Dare County cannot speak for them self, so Dave is here to do it for them.

Dave loves all animals, but has a special fondness for dogs. In fact his hobby turned business "Dogwood by Dave" is making scroll saw art work of dogs. Dave not only supplies his scroll saw art work of dogs, to his wife's store "Puparazzi! Pet Bow-tique” he also supplies other retailers & art galleries as well.

Dave encourages all residents to get involved with the Outer Banks SPCA and welcomes your concerns, comments and especially your help. (your donations and your time) Please feel free to e-mail Dave at penoskyobx@embarqmail.com & please visit the Outer Banks SPCA online at http://www.obxspca.org/
